The age old saying reminds us that what other people think is none of our business and it’s true! It’s so important to imbibe this revolutionary truth and realise that you can’t possibly know what others are thinking or worrying about, and you certainly can’t control it. Everyone sees the world through their own unique framework and lens which means they are gauging you on their own terms that have nothing to do with you, and this is entirely okay.

The issue arises when we start to become concerned that what other people think of us has some kind of impact on our happiness and well-being. We then start to change our behaviour for fear of what other people will say or think, and this is a huge waste of energy and can lead to some really unhealthy patterns in our relationships with the ones we love.

Some of these meddlers can be friends, family members, co-workers or club mates that you have known for years. Generally they are just trying to have their cake and eat it too by stirring shit around in other people’s lives for their own self-serving reasons.

What’s more, it doesn’t always work – you can’t please everyone. If you try to change your behaviour to suit other people’s expectations or opinions they will still find a reason to dislike you. This is because they are also judging themselves and are desperately seeking the approval of the people that matter to them which is all about them not you.
